Where Honesty Never Ends.
First off, thanks so much for all of the support. Earlier this month, The Review Board celebrated a year of being open and we are very pleased with the growth thus far.
We wanted to take the time to touch base as it pertains to those who have sought review or are interested in getting them.
Once you reach out with your initial query, then you get a response back from us. In that response, you are thanked for your interest, provided a link to the guidelines and frequently asked questions. Then, we await further instructions.
The initial inquiry does not serve as a placeholder. You are not officially placed on the TRB Review list until WE get the work.
It is YOUR responsibility to get the work to us. Unfortunately, we don’t have time to go back and remind people to send us their works.
As it stands, there are 10 review slots left for 2014, so if you are thinking about it, all we will say is “Don’t think too long.”
Tiny hint: If you are wondering where you are in terms of the review list, one indicator is via The Review Board on Facebook. We have a Photo Album entitled “Coming Attractions”. We tend to put pictures of items that are coming up, within a two month time frame. If the cover of your book is in that album, then you’re not too far away.
TRB will continue to accept requests for reviews. There are some sites who will opt to close once volume gets to be too high. However, once they get caught up and open the doors to accept reviews again, then the cycle will end up repeating. A few of us have run across some sites who are still closed for reviews, and it’s been almost two years, even longer.
There are more factors that come into play than just the length of a work. True, it doesn’t take long to read a work that’s just 100 pages, but if there’s a work that came in before you that’s 300 pages, then it’s first come, first serve. We are doing the works in the order that we receive them, but rest assured, we are getting to you. In addition, if some of you want certain reviewers or want multiple reviewers, we are working in the background to make sure we can meet your requests as best we can. That can also play a definite role in the outcome.
We are still taking all genres. That hasn’t changed. We haven’t come across anything yet that at least one of our reviewers wouldn’t mind reading. We hope this is a rule that never has to change, for there are some genres that are having a harder time getting seen than others (particularly non-fiction, poetry, and erotica).
So please be patient. Many people have been pleased at the amount of insight we have been able to provide on their work.
Take care, and enjoy the rest of your day/evening.
