Moral of this story: Never give up!

I’m not saying that because it sounds catchy, nor because it’s something WWE Superstar John Cena would say.  It is because it takes a lot of determination to deal with the obstacles these five friends faced in Chasing Watermelons.

The story starts off with Duck, the main character, desiring some watermelon.  It’s understandable.

The watermelon–representative of summer and it is something cool, yet nutritious and filling.

Duck discovered the watermelon was packaged in a crate.  Although he successfully pried the crate open with a crowbar, the watermelons had minds of their own as they began to travel.

Then, it becomes a modern day duck hunt with the prize being the watermelons.  Duck recruits four of his friends–Cow, Chicken, Pig, and Goat to help in the pursuit.  In return, they would be rewarded with watermelons as well.

Through beautiful illustrations that capture the excitement as well as expressions of the five friends, Chasing Watermelons captures all of the challenges they had to endure during the chase.  With each obstacle, each friend comes up with an idea on how to meet the obstacle.  Although in most of the tryst, another challenge would take its’ place, the friends held on to their “never give up” attitude in order to achieve their goal.

I will not spoil the ending, but let’s just say that Perseverance pays off.

I am a fan of this children’s book because it is pleasing to the eye (bright colors, simple lettering, accurate sketching of the animals) and because of the positive message it represents.  These lessons can be applied to any aspect of their lives, whether it is with schoolwork or just doing something they love.

Thank you for tuning in to this short, yet fun filled entry of The Review Board.  I am appreciative of all of the likes, shares, and subscribes we have received!

Have a delightful day!
